About the winery
The Azienda Agricola Francesco Modica is located in Contrada Sciaranuova, 750 meters above sea level, on the north slope of Mount Etna, located in the eastern part of Sicily. Among the hamlets that radiate from the village of Passopisciaro to the municipality of Randazzo, Sciaranuova, which includes the area between the SS120 and the SP Quotamille, is one of the most renowned for wine production. Upstream, the hamlet is characterized by a lava flow from 1600, known and remembered, specifically, for its vastness and grandeur. As a result of the lava flow, the soil has taken on particular characteristics and today we find it to be black mineral, dissolved but soft and friable, and with a moderate amount of stones. Thanks to this composition, the soil is well suited to the production of refined grapes from which special wines are born.
